What is Pilonidal Sinus ?

Pilonidal sinus are sacs filled with hair and skin debrls that form at the top of the crease of the buttocks above the sacrum. A painful abscess can form if the sinus and the overlying skin become infected.

Causes of Pilonidal Sinus ?

Most experts believe that the sinus arise due to trauma to the area that results in ingrown hairs. Pilonidal sinus often contain hair when excised. but hair follicies have not been demonstrated in them, suggesting that the hair may have been introduced from outside the cyst.

Signs and Symptoms of Pilonidal Sinus

  • Pain, redness and swelling at the bottom of the spine
  • Pus or blood draining out of it
  • Bad smell from the pus
  • Tenderness to the touch
